Such a great story about your cat. I'm glad you learned that the mysterious cat distribution system doesn't make mistakes. I learned it too and wound up with a three generation cat family of five that kept me loved and laughing for years. I'm not at all surprised that you felt that way about your companion. My aunt once told me before she died that after years of observing cats and cat-people she couldn't find much wrong with either. I couldn't agree more.

Hello, Otis! I’m a fairly new subber to your channel and have only watched maybe 10 or 15 of your videos here, but Steve had me in stitches with his stories. Not only that, his outlook and advice about taking suggestions or incorporating others’ ideas on music/lyrics is on the mark. “At least give it 24 hours…,” is great advice. I could sit down with Steve and/or you and have a great time just kicking it. I’m a musician who can no longer play my drums, but I still absolutely love music. It’s saved my life at times, I’m sure. I really relate, too, with no longer getting high or drinking. I had my crazy times and I cherish a lot of the people I met along the way, but the frying my brain is in the past. I wasn’t very good at parceling drugs out to myself in a moderate way, but I was a happy drunk. Thank you for these videos. I’m enjoying the ride.

Otis, I just watched your Pete Townsend interview piece. Something you might find significant is that my cultural awakening took place when I subscribed to the brand new news-mag Rolling Stone in its first year-They sent me as a bonus the interview issue with Pete Townsend. That interview pushed me toward becoming a philosopher/musician. Now in 2024, retired, I am trying to invigorate my music playing. What I have to do, because of my age, is to rely on music I know best, the music of the 60s-80s Folk/Rock era. It has been embarrassing to prepare the old workhorses, in my mind. But now I see that “no one” knows the old songs-Bob Dylan’s first 8 albums, or the sixties Folk Revival , Tom Paxton, etc. Your podcast confirms my intuition that I can bring the best of Classic 1960s rock and the folk world, and know that I am bringing wonderful songs, new to them, to my audiences. Thank you!

Charlie brought me back to a side of music that I didn't realize I enjoyed so deeply. Blackberry is a standalone accomplishment and vibe, truly great, all on its own but its also ( for me) a gateway back to a more genuine time in music. Merle and Willie and Waylon and George... Every time I hear Vince Gill do the song he wrote about Merle, just after he passed, brings tears to my eyes. Every time it starts I say, ok it's not going to happen this time, and it does. I think it's one of the most well written songs I know, and it tells exactly who Merle was to all of us. Getting to know Charlie Starr has been a real joy also. What a great great story. I was a Rug Burns fan when I was in San Diego in the early 90s and recently saw Steve at the Sisters Folk Festival. This story is so perfect and could have been a John Prine song, or maybe Steve will turn it into one of his own. Pure gold!

i was in a forum and mentioned something about Billy Strings and his band buying themselves Accutron Space View watches and how i heard that Tony repaired them and Tony's wife Pamela answered me and said he not only loved working on the but was OCD about it. and how after tony"s passing there were a few of the watches he had finished, one went to Zac Brown with a nice note and one to David Grisman and one to Davids Son.... the rest of what she said i'll keep quiet about.... Cheers

Man I love what you do Otis. I was a kid from rural Indiana that started playing in bar bands at 14 (42 years ago). All these guys and these stories are just incredible. Thank you so much for creating this record of our heroes and just some cool cats.

Merle is, was and will always be my favorite country singer songwriter player. Love hearing stories about him. I’m definitely going to use that line in shows for sure. “We can play quieter so you don’t have to talk so loud”.

Otis you struck gold again with Charlie Starr! He's an excellent storyteller and has wit and humor to go with it. It isn't often that I'm not in agreement with Charlie but I think his son is ready for Europe 72. My daughter has been listening to The Dead, The Brothers, The Band and Little Feat since she was in elementary school. It blows he older male coworkers away when they talk music amongst themselves and she knows the bands, albums and songs they're discussing.
